Construction doesn’t stop when the temps soar, but your safety comes first. Extreme heat can lead to heat exhaustion, heat stroke, and serious injuries.
Here’s how to stay safe on the job site:
Hydrate constantly – Drink water every 15-20 minutes, even if you’re not thirsty. Avoid energy drinks or heavy caffeine.
Take shaded breaks – Use the buddy system and rotate into cool areas or AC vehicles. Follow the “Work/Rest” schedule.
Dress smart – Light-colored, loose-fitting, breathable clothing + wide-brim hat and UV-protective sunglasses.
Watch for warning signs – Dizziness, nausea, heavy sweating, confusion, or muscle cramps? Stop immediately and cool down.
Protect your skin – Apply (and reapply) sunscreen and wear sun-protective gear.
Acclimatize – Give your body time to adjust to the heat over several days. Pro Tip: Check the heat index (not just temperature) and speak up if conditions feel unsafe.
Your crew is stronger when everyone looks out for each other. Stay cool, stay hydrated, and make it home safe!
